In order to run three trains at once, there are three through tracks in the center: Scioto Valley Traction to the south, then the freight through track, and the passenger through track on the north. For variety of operation, four switches join the north and south tracks, allowing for run-arounds.
For maximum train movement during operations, on the transfer end, there are four tracks to run through the backdrop on the left side. Closest to the edge (bottom in the diagram, below) is the Scioto Valley Traction line. Next, an engine house can be accessed from the transfer area. Then the track beyond the station. And beyond the single-story warehouse is a freight track that runs through.
The canal end at Lockbourne has two freight sidings, and two passenger sidings serving, from front to back, the Scioto Valley station, the Norfolk & Western station, the canal station and office, the canal barge slip, and the canal dock.
Passenger, freight, and interurban electric operations are automated and/or operator-controlled from the front of the layout using iPads and the DCC system.
